The years leading up to the Mexican-American War witnessed major technological leaps in weapons development. While the Army tested those innovations in occasional clashes with Native Americans, these new weapons had yet to be tested against traditional military forces. The war with Mexico would provide the realistic application of the new technology. Using original and reproduction examples, this talk will explore now American technology not only impacted the Mexican-American War, but also the weapons of the American Civil War.
