This special one hour experience takes guests behind the scenes, around the grounds, and through the Polk Home for an in-depth look at the women who shaped its history.
The tour highlights the remarkable stories of Sarah Polk and her influential years as First Lady; Ophelia, the troubled sister who lived in the on-site Sisters’ House; and Jane, the resilient First Mother who outlived most of her children. Visitors will also learn about Matilda, an enslaved woman and the family’s cook, whose life ended during the same cholera outbreak that claimed James Polk.
This tour is free for Polk Association Members; standard admission fees apply for all other visitors.
