Programs Designed for Home Learning

The Polk Home and Museum loves our homeschool community! We offer a variety of programming designed for parent educators and cooperative homeschool groups.

The Polk Home offers a variety of homeschool programs! Join on of our already scheduled homeschool programs or schedule a field trip for your homeschool co-op.

Homeschool History Day

Scheduled quarterly, Homeschool History Days include tours of the Polk Home and themed activities and crafts throughout the site. Past events have included women’s history, gardening, historic Christmas traditions, and the Mexican-American War. 2024 dates and themes will be announced soon. Homeschool History Days are “come-and-go,” with activity stations set up throughout the morning. Plan to spend about 1.5 hours working through the stations as a family.

Homeschool Field Trips

Much like our traditional school field trips, we invite homeschool groups of 10 or more to enjoy our site offerings including a guided tour, the Sister’s House video and museum, and a short program on our historic kitchen. Optional activities for larger groups include period toys and games and special exhibitions when available. (1-1.5 hrs.)

Homeschool History Club

Themed activities led by Polk Home education staff, geared toward students in grades 1-8. Space is limited, and parents may drop students off. This is a great option for students who may like a less crowded experience than Homeschool History Days. Homeschool History Club meets from 2pm-3:30pm on the first Friday of the month, from September-December and February-May.
