Our experts, your classroom

Bring the Polk Home’s unique history and collection directly to your classroom. The President James K. Polk Home and Museum offers interactive online lessons and discussion sessions live and in real time with our licensed educator and museum.

NEW: We now offer Traveling Classroom lessons and activities to schools in Middle TN with our licensed Polk Home educator.

How does distance learning work?

Our educator will directly connect with your classroom via a web conferencing app. Once connected our staff will use the Polk Home and Museum’s collection to facilitate a lesson and discussion on a preselected topic of your choosing.

What equipment do I need?

You will need a computer with a good internet connection, and preferably a camera, microphone, and a projector to display the program to the class.

How long is a program?

Our online programs generally run 45-60 minutes, but can be tailored to your classroom schedule.

How much does it cost?

The Polk Home’s online programs are $60 per session.
You will not be charged until your online program is completed. If there is a problem with your webconference beyond your control (snow days, power failure, network issues, etc.) we will reschedule at no additional charge.

What programs are available?

“The Polk Home Virtual Field Trip”
“‘The Great Nation of Futurity:’ James Polk and Manifest Destiny”
“The Dark Horse: Presidential Campaigning in Polk’s time”
“Commander in Contradiction: James and Sarah Polk and Slavery”

Our programs align with TN State Standards, but as always share your specific standards or needs. Our licensed educator will work with you to develop a program that is right for you.

The Polk Home & Museum will temporarily close starting August 17 for HVAC upgrades. We anticipate the closure to last three weeks but will update as work progresses.
