Historic firearms collector David Whitson Barr will present the free public program "Wheel-guns, Breechloaders, Flinters, and Cap-locks" at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church adjacent to the Polk Sisters' House.

The James K. Polk Museum Shop (in the Sisters' House at 305 W. 7th Street) will again host a gingerbread house contest. This year's entry divisions and winners' prizes are:

Child (ages 11 and younger)- $50 prize 

Youth (ages 12-17)- $50 prize    

Adult (ages 18 and older)- $100 prize       

Family or Group- $100 prize.

The contest guidelines are listed below.  If you have questions or need additional information, please call (931) 388-2354.


1) Entries must be at least 50% gingerbread.  All components except the base must be edible.

2) Entries must be freestanding on a base no larger than 24" x 18".  Houses may not be taller than 24".

3) Entries should be delivered to the Museum Shop on December 5 or 6 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.  Winners will be announced on December 7.  The houses will be on display December 7-9 (Friday-Sunday).  They may be picked up on December 10 or later that week.

4) Contestants should include the following information with their entries: name, entry division, mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address.



The James K. Polk Home and Museum is located at 301 W. 7th Street in downtown Columbia, TN.

Free parking is available in the lot across 7th Street or along High Street on the east side of the main house.
